The Appearance of the Weiner Chihuahua Mix
The Chihuahua Dachshund mix most often has the body of a Dachshund. Chiweenie pups are small and will stay that way, even fully grown. They will reach approximately 8 inches in height and up to 10 pounds in weight. The Dachshund mix with Chihuahua will have a small head and either the erect ears of a Chihuahua or the long, floppy ears of a Dachshund. Only nature knows!
The coat of a long haired Dachshund Chihuahua mix may be silky and of medium length. This pup will need more grooming than a Chihuahua Dachsund mix with a shorter coat. This breed sheds mildly.
Chiweenie Information – Behavior, Diet, Exercise and More
As mentioned above, this type of dog has characteristics of both breeds (as you might expect). Luckily, both are highly social dog breeds so the chances are good that you will have a pet that loves being around you, your family and friends.
The Chiweenie Diet
In general, Chiweenies are not big eaters and even tend to be a bit picky. Because of this, you may find that you will periodically need to change the diet of a Chihuahua Dachshund mix.
Of course, as with other breeds, this should be done gradually to avoid stomach upset or diarrhea. There are Chihuahua mixed with Dachshund dogs, though, that will eat anything, so it does depend on the individual animal. It will just take time for you to learn what works best.
A Chiweenie puppy craves attention and wants to spend time with his or her family. As such, your new puppy will require a good deal of playtime and attention while growing. A Chiweenie dog will also be a great lapdog when fully grown, enjoying the chance to spend quality time with you.
A Chihuahua Weiner dog mix will get along well with children as long as the pup is raised with the youngsters. Otherwise, a Chihuahua and Dachshund mix can be somewhat shy around kids.
Because of this tendency towards shyness, a Dachshund mixed with Chihuahua may become more attached to one member of the family and will bond with that individual so it’s important to socialize your puppy early on and make sure that it gets the obedience training it needs.
Chiweenie Exercise Options
Chihuahua Dachshund puppies have quite a bit of energy. You will need to walk your dog daily. As an aside, it’s a good idea to have a fenced-in backyard to provide your Chihuahua Dachshund with enough room to play and run around.
Besides exercise they are small dogs and not able to protect themselves as readily as a larger breed might be. So, you do need to be certain that your yard is properly enclosed to keep your Chihuahua Dachshund mix safe.
Weather conditions usually do not bother Chiweenie puppies. Some Chiweenie dogs, though, will not like going out in the rain and cold temperatures.
Chihuahua Dachshund mix puppies are affectionate, healthy, sweet and completely lovable, making the perfect pet for anyone who wants a wonderful companion!
